Over time, rust spots appear on the Sweet iron bit. This rust tastes sweet and is perceived as pleasant by the horse. The horse will produce more saliva and start foaming nicely, making the bit easier to accept. The blue color of the bit gradually changes to gray/brown with rust spots visible on the mouthpiece. Clean the bit with a damp cloth when the spots start to show orange rust. This can happen, for example, if the bit is not used temporarily or is hung up too damp.
